Born February 29 in Princeton, TX Dave made his name on the Dallas club scene before joining forces with drummer Mike Luce, guitarist CJ Pierce, and bassist Stevie Benton who had been performing as an instrumental band since 1996. The band chose the name Drowning Pool after the 1975 film starring Paul Newman.
The band's career took off after a demo tape wound up in the hands of Atlanta quintet Sevendust, who tapped them to open their tour. Tours with Kittie and (hed) p.e. followed, and the band signed with Wind-Up Records, which released their first disc Sinner in 2001. With the huge success of the band's first single "Bodies", Sinner was certified platinum in just six weeks. In the summer of 2001, Drowning Pool was invited to perform on the Ozzfest tour playing the morning slot on the third stage. As the tour went on, the band became more popular with crowds and they were eventually promoted to the second stage and even to the Main stage for a few select shows. Clearly the breakout hit of that year's Ozzfest, Ozzy and Sharon invited the band back again the following summer in 2002 this time on the Main Stage full time. Only a month into the tour, after performing in Noblesville, IN the night before, Dave was found dead on the band's tour bus on the way to the next stop in Bristow, VA on August 14, 2002. The cause of death was later revealed to be from an undiagnosed heart condition, known as cardiomyopathy. Dave was only 30 yrs old. \m/RIP\m/
