Unique, powerful, funky, and progressive; this is how I would describe the album "King Of The Sugarcoated Tongues" by the Aussie prog rock band The Sunpilots. This album is so unique and so different I was blown away. Not your standard metal album or even rock album, "King" takes you on a journey over seven distinct chapters (in eight tracks). I was caught off guard by the first track "Prologue: 3 Minutes to Midnight" but not in a bad way, it has a very folky-funky feel to it. It is setting up the story of the album. Each song builds upon the the previous song and you can feel it. Great vocals with funky guitars and drums really drive this album, but there are some real rockers too. My favorites being "Chapter III: The Captain", "Chapter V: Sex and TV" and "Chapter VI: The Piper's Mirror".
I have listened to the album multiple times already and there is something about it that I really dig, but its hard to describe. I guess unique, powerful, funky, and progressive will have to do.
With a rating of (8.5/10) I highly recommend this album and band. Go out and give it a listen and make sure you listen to it all the way through. Also, check out the video for "The Piper's Mirror" below. The video is great and has a Gorillaz feel to it. The song is my favorite track on the album.
