Metal Without Boundaries: Bro-Metal Review Of Plain’s Self-Titled Album

Often time, bands find themselves stuck in a sound, stuck within boundaries.  Oslo, Norway’s, Plain, have no such issue.  Their new, self-titled album, contains songs that have no boundaries.  Each song has its own sound, yet each song is great.  The common denominator is, each song has a groove and vocal that make you bounce your head and feel the music.  Heavy riffs and a sometimes, funky groove, lay the foundation for “Plain.”  Plus, the vocals are intense and soulful.

When I say each song has its own sound, I am not saying that one song is metal and another song is R&B, what I am saying is each song has its own distinct feel.  For example, “Ladder,” has an underlying punk vibe, “iSleeper,” has a hardcore, even thrash vibe, “Son,” feels like a metal thumper and, “Some Child,” has funky groove back beat highlighted with great metal riffs.  This is just a taste of a few songs on the album.  The rest of the tracks all contain their own unique sound but maintain their over all connection and are decidedly, Plain songs.  Oh and being a, Plain song, means it is a metal gem.

Plain, and their self-titled album, have made a believer out of me.  This band has staying power and play songs without boundaries, but at the end of the day you will be bouncing your head and feeling each fantastic track.  With a Bro-Metal rating of, 9/10, Plain, has an amazing album on their hands and an album that all rock and metal fans will love.  -Bro
