SIsters Of..., from St Joseph, MO (Bro-Metal country), have created some of the most unique and powerfully layered sounds I have ever heard. Their debut EP, "Follow Me As A Ghost," is absolutely amazing, and their upcoming album, "The Serpent, The Angel, The Adversary" is one of my favorite albums of the year. Signed to, Crowquill Records, Sisters Of..., will be releasing, "The Serpent, The Angel, The Adversary," on 5.14.15. Sisters Of..., is the creation of musical virtuoso, Aaron Coker. I had a six pack with my Missouri brother, Aaron, and the rest is history. As you can tell I am a massive fan of this band and after reading this interview and checking out their music, you will be too. -Bro
Bro: Your sound is hard to describe. One thing I do know is that it grabs the listener right from the start. How would you describe it?
Aaron Coker: Hmmm.. I honestly don't know how to describe it. We just really come from very diverse musical pasts and love many different types of bands so I think the outcome is a blend of all the heavy bands we love and also all the sounds that a lot of heavy bands don't really draw inspiration from.
Bro: How did, Sisters Of..., come to be? Where does the name come from?
AC: It came to me basically after I was out of music for a while and I just needed to start writing again. I just couldn't decide what type of band to start. I've been in super heavy bands and I've been in a folky bluegrass band and a bunch of other types in between. So instead of trying to start a heavy band to fill that side of me, and a lighter, sort of lush melodic type of band too, I just took a shot at writing a song that really drew from both sides of the spectrum, and that was the title track off our debut EP. It just felt so right that I got a hold of Chris and he felt it right away also, and the rest just took off. As far as the name, we are from Kansas City, and one of our favorite bands growing up, umm, gave us the inspiration for the name. That's all I wanna say hah.
Bro: “The Serpent, The Angel, The Adversary” Is one of my favorite albums of 2015. What is the story behind the album?
AC: Thank you very for much man. There is a running theme throughout the whole record, but it's not an actual concept album, which as a 98% instrumental record, I'm not sure it's even possible to have a concept album, but the first six songs all share the same purpose, and the last song, at least for me, is to give the record an almost cathartic and peaceful ending.
Bro: Will you be touring in support of the new album? If so, when and where?
AC: Well, I'm not sure touring will be in the cards. I have a family now, and I'm just not sure I could handle being away from them for a tour. We have just put together a live band and we will be starting to play the KC and maybe the surrounding areas soon.
Bro: Sisters Of...have a unique and gripping sound. So, cheesy interview question, who are your influences?
AC: It's a long and ever changing list.. Ranging from Black Sabbath to Explosions In The Sky to Sigur Rós to Malevolent Creation. I hate to sound like everyone else, but there really is so many it's hard to even name any. But those are some I've listened to recently.
Bro: Ok, so what is the plan for, Sisters Of...and world domination?
AC: Up next is to continue live rehearsals while the next release is crafted. The plan for the band is to always try to execute whatever idea we have regardless of if it fits any scene or not and if we can do that then we will bring something new to each record. World domination starts right around record number 4...
